What is the average amount of driving lessons?
This is a question which we are asked a lot. It is also a really difficult question to answer.
How many driving lessons?
The official Dvsa figures state that on average a 17 year old will take 44 hours of professional lessons along with 20 hours of private driving practice to reach the standard required for the driving test.
It should be noted that these figures take into account some of the old school driving instructors. Because these instructors have been around such a long time they may not be as enthusiastic as they once were.
Also the modern driving test is a lot different to what it was 40 years ago.
Here at Andrew’s Driving School we find it takes somewhere between 25 and 35 hours of professional lessons to reach the standard. If you are lucky enough to be able to get any private driving practice then this can significantly reduce the amount of hours needed.
Our promise to you
Whilst we can not promise that you will pass your driving test in any set amount of hours, we can promise to give you our best attention at all times, to ensure that you are fully up to date with all of the driving test requirements, and that all of our instructors will have a modern approach to teaching you.
Our goal is to get your driving to a high standard as quickly as possible.
How the driving test has changed
The driving test today involves driving into a busy supermarket carpark, parking the car in a bay and reversing out, as well as pulling up on the right hand side of the road facing the oncoming traffic before reversing back on the wrong side of the road. Then there is the 20 minute independent driving where you may be asked to follow a sat nav. During this part you will be on busy roundabouts and dual carriageways. None of these things where part of the driving test even 10 years ago. That is why it is important to choose a driving school with a modern, up to date outlook.
A good way to establish where you are at with your driving is to take one of our assessment driving lessons. After a 2 hour assessment we are able to give you an honest answer as to how many driving lessons you will need. We are very experienced at this and will rarely be more than a few hours out either way.
If you have been thinking about a career as a driving instructor. There has never been a better time than now to start in this exciting industry. Since the problems of the last year and driving tests being cancelled there are literally thousand of new learners waiting to begin their lessons. Thats not to mention the unlucky ones who have had their driving tests cancelled multiple times.
