Drive Rhyl Test Route 1

Watch the route carefully and look for changes in speed limits, lane markings, pedestrian crossings and developing meeting situations.

Remember:

Test routes are not fixed. Use this video to understand the local roads and possible hazards, not to memorise a set of directions.

Route checklist

Key areas to watch

These are some of the situations learners should pay particular attention to while watching the route.

01

KFC Roundabout

Common problem

Approaching too quickly from the dual carriageway, making lane selection more difficult and increasing the risk of crossing into another lane.

What to work on

Use mirrors and signals early, reduce speed in good time and identify the correct lane before entering the roundabout.

02

Sainsbury’s Roundabout

Common problem

Moving out without fully assessing vehicles approaching across both lanes.

What to work on

Slow down early, keep your observations moving and wait until there is a safe gap before entering.

03

Pedestrian Crossings

Common problem

Failing to scan effectively near the crossings around Marina Quay and the seafront retail area.

What to work on

Look well ahead, identify pedestrians early and be prepared to reduce speed or stop.

04

Meeting Traffic

Common problem

Trying to force through narrow gaps on roads with parked vehicles, particularly around Victoria Road.

What to work on

Assess the available space early, reduce speed and wait when necessary rather than competing for the gap.

05

Speed-Limit Changes

Common problem

Accelerating before reaching a higher-speed sign or reducing speed too late when entering a lower-speed area.

What to work on

Look well ahead for signs, check mirrors before changing speed and make sure the vehicle is at the correct speed at the sign.

06

Independent Driving

Common problem

Becoming distracted by directions and allowing observations, speed or road position to deteriorate.

What to work on

Continue applying normal driving routines. Missing a direction is less important than making an unsafe decision.
