Driving Lessons in Conwy
Learn to Drive
Across the Conwy Area
Learn with Andrew’s Driving School, with friendly tuition tailored to your experience and the way you learn.
Learn to drive on the roads you’ll use every day
Learning in the Conwy area gives you experience beyond the town itself. Your lessons can take you through Llandudno and Colwyn Bay, from quieter residential streets to busy junctions, roundabouts and faster routes such as the A55.
Whether you’re starting from scratch or returning after a break, your instructor will plan lessons around your progress. Bangor is the nearest practical driving test centre, with Rhyl another option, so you can prepare for your test while building skills for everyday driving.

Build your skills step by step, with clear explanations and time to practise what you learn.
Everyday Driving Skills
Develop observation, planning and car control for independent driving as well as test preparation.
Manual and automatic driving lessons
Choose the type of car you’d like to learn in. We can confirm which manual or automatic instructors cover your postcode and have space for new learners.
Learning in a manual car
Your instructor will help you bring clutch control, gear changes and road awareness together, with time to practise until operating the car feels more natural.
- Get comfortable with clutch control and changing gears
- Practise moving off, stopping and hill starts
- Develop confidence at junctions, roundabouts and in traffic
Prefer to learn in an automatic?
With no clutch pedal or manual gear changes, an automatic can make the early stages feel simpler. You’ll still learn the observation, planning and decision-making skills needed to drive safely.
- No clutch pedal or manual gear changes
- Practise smooth speed control and stopping
- Build observation and planning skills

From the coast to the Conwy Valley
We welcome enquiries from Deganwy, Tal-y-Bont, Penmaenmawr, Dwygyfylchi and the surrounding villages. Let us know where you live and whether you’d prefer to meet at home, work or another convenient place.
Making the most of your first lessons
If you live further out, in places such as Dolgarrog, Tyn-y-Groes or Trefriw, meeting your instructor in Conwy or at the railway station in Llandudno Junction for the first few lessons may make better use of your time. You can spend more of the lesson behind the wheel rather than being driven to a suitable practice area.
Once you’re ready to drive the journey home with your instructor, you may be able to switch to home pick-ups. The A470 and B5106 through the Conwy Valley offer useful practice on faster rural roads, with bends, changing speed limits and road layouts that call for careful observation and planning.
First lessons often begin on the quieter roads around Conwy Marina, giving you time to get comfortable with moving off, steering and stopping. As your skills develop, your instructor will gradually introduce busier roads and junctions.
We will discuss the most practical meeting point with you, depending on your instructor’s coverage and your stage of learning.
