Watch an advanced driving route from Rhyl Test Centre through Pensarn and Abergele, including urban roads, roundabouts, the A55 and higher-speed driving.
- Rhyl Driving Test Centre
- Kinmel Bay and St Asaph Avenue
- Pensarn and Abergele
- KFC and Sainsbury’s roundabouts
- A55 joining and leaving
- Advanced driving consistency
Drive the Rhyl Pensarn and Abergele route
Watch how the route moves between town roads, roundabouts, coastal roads and the A55. Pay particular attention to planning, positioning, progress and maintaining an advanced standard throughout.
Route familiarity can help with preparation, but the Part 2 test assesses the quality and consistency of your driving. Do not rely on memorised directions.
Key areas to analyse
Use the video to review where advanced observation, planning, positioning and judgement need to remain consistent.
Leaving Rhyl Test Centre
Starting the drive with hurried observations, weak positioning or unnecessary hesitation because of test nerves.
Establish a calm driving rhythm immediately, assess each junction fully and demonstrate effective all-round observation.
H-Bridge and Coast Road
Failing to plan early for changes in road width, bends, traffic flow or vulnerable road users.
Read the road well ahead, select an appropriate speed and position and maintain smooth progress through changing conditions.
Pensarn and Abergele
Becoming reactive rather than planning ahead around traffic lights, junctions, pedestrians and changing speed limits.
Use signs, road markings and developing hazards to make timely, deliberate decisions without unnecessary delay.
Joining the A55
Entering the slip road without assessing traffic early enough or joining at an unsuitable speed.
Build an appropriate speed, identify a safe gap early and merge smoothly while maintaining accurate mirror use and lane control.
Leaving the A55
Planning the exit late, changing lane abruptly or reducing speed too early on the main carriageway.
Identify the exit in good time, complete mirror checks early and reduce speed progressively once established on the slip road.
Rhuddlan and the Return to Rhyl
Allowing standards to fall near the end of the route, particularly around roundabouts, lane choice and speed management.
Maintain the same observation, planning and vehicle-control standard until the drive is fully complete.

Download the written route covering Rhyl Test Centre, Pensarn, Abergele, the A55 and the return through Rhuddlan.
Use the guide alongside the video to review the route structure. It should support training rather than replace advanced driving practice and professional feedback.
Build a consistent ADI Part 2 driving standard
The route includes town roads, coastal sections, roundabouts and dual carriageways. Your preparation should help you maintain safe, systematic and progressive driving across every environment.
The goal is not simply to avoid faults. You should demonstrate confident judgement, accurate control and a clear awareness of how your actions affect other road users.
